Do You Know Your Hair Type?

You may have spent a great deal of money on your hair, by using the best hair care products and going to a trendy salon, however, your hair may still look dull and lifeless. You may try to emulate your friends who have long, beautiful locks, but are still frustrated because you cannot get the results that you are looking for. You look in the mirror and get depressed, thinking about how much money you have spent on your hair and you are still not satisfied.

You may be buying products blindly, thinking that they will help your hair and they dont. The first step is to figure out the needs of your hair. If your hair is too curly, you may want to buy straightening gel, or if your hair is dry, you may want to buy moisturizers for your hair.

As an individual, your hair is different from others, so you may need different products that your friends. You may want to start with the basics, is your hair dry, normal or oily? Any and all of these are very common. It is certainly important to know that you have oily hair so that you buy a product that will help cut down on the oiliness.

If you are unsure as to the type of hair you have, test it. To determine the type of hair you have get a tissue and touch it with your scalp. If you see an oily splotch than your hair is oily. If the tissue doesnt stick at all, your hair is dry and if it sticks but is dry then your hair is normal.

Dry Hair is actually caused by oil glands that are not working and consequently, your hair is dry. It is very common in men and women. If you spend a great deal of time in the sun and use a lot of chemical treatments on your hair, it will dry out.

If you have dry hair, your diet may be the culprit. You may want to eat foods that are rich in zinc and Vitamin A. You may want to try a hot oil treatment to help moisturize and revitalize your hair. Try to avoid excessive hair products such as hot blow dryers and electric rollers.

Oily Hair. If you have oily hair, chances are your oil glands are secreting to much oil and it may make your hair look greasy.

You may want to start with your diet by eating more fruits and vegetables. You will need to wash your hair everyday to prevent the oils from building up in your hair.

Normal Hair. If you have normal hair, consider yourself lucky to have bouncy, healthy tresses. Try to keep it that way by not over styling your hair or using harsh products that could potentially damage your hair.
